AI systems now screen job applicants, assess credit, support clinical decisions and answer customers. The organizations behind them make claims that those systems are accurate, fair, safe and well governed. Regulators, customers and courts increasingly expect those claims to hold up.
New York City requires independent bias audits of AI hiring tools. The EU AI Act sets risk management requirements for high-risk systems. ISO/IEC 42001 has made AI governance certifiable. The people who must answer for AI systems are often not the people who built them. They need to understand these systems well enough to ask the right questions and judge the answers.
Learn how AI audit and assurance engagements are planned, conducted and reported under ISAE 3000.
Bring AI systems into your audit plan, test governance and controls, and evaluate the evidence behind claims made by your teams.
Evaluate an AI vendor’s documentation, test evidence and claims before procurement, and know what to ask for.
Advise on AI risk and regulatory exposure with a working understanding of how the systems behave and where their risks arise.
Assess AI risks and impacts in a structured way and recognize the governance obligations that recur across the major AI frameworks and regulations.
Design oversight that holds up to independent scrutiny, and work with external auditors as an informed counterpart.
No coding is required, no advanced mathematics, and no prior audit experience.
Follow a technical conversation with a development team and identify where the risk sits.
Assess an AI system’s risks and impacts on the people it affects, and build a defensible risk register.
Read a test report critically and judge whether the testing supports the claims being made.
Evaluate AI governance structures and controls, and translate regulatory requirements into auditable criteria.
Understand how an AI assurance engagement moves from scoping to evidence to a reported conclusion.
Follow a resume-screening system through its full development lifecycle, then build the vocabulary for everything from traditional machine learning to large language models and agentic systems. You learn the technical fluency to evaluate AI without becoming an engineer.
Learn BABL AI’s structured method for identifying what could go wrong, who could be affected, and how serious the impact could be, aligned with ISO/IEC 42005. You apply it end to end to an LLM-based hiring tool, from stakeholder interviews to a prioritized risk register.
Most testing is done by technical teams. Your job is to judge whether it is relevant, credible and complete. You learn to frame what a system’s results are valid for, interpret performance and fairness metrics, and know when to bring in a specialist.
Examine who decides which risks are acceptable and who keeps watching once a system is live. The course covers governance structures, controls, third-party and agentic AI, and the EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF and ISO/IEC 42001. Every mechanism is viewed from both the organization’s side and the auditor’s.
Learn how AI audit and assurance engagements work under ISAE 3000: independence, criteria, evidence, materiality and assurance conclusions. You then follow a simplified NYC Local Law 144 bias audit from scoping through evidence review, claims verification and the final report.
Real-life examples and case studies run through the whole program. You see a single risk travel from a design decision to a finding in an audit report.
Work through each course on your own schedule.
Each course has two exercises, both with written feedback.
Each course ends with a quiz to check your understanding.
Bring your questions to live online sessions with BABL experts.
Apply everything to a single AI system, ideally one from your own work, and get another round of feedback.
Complete all five courses to earn the AI Audit & Assurance Training Program Certificate of Completion.
I founded founded BABL AI in 2018, after a career as professor in astrophysics, because already back then AI systems were already making consequential decisions about people. Very few of those systems had been examined by anyone independent of the teams that built them. I worked as an AI auditor ever since and helped build the professional community around algorithmic auditing as founding member of IAAA and PACT AI and as board member of ForHumanity.
BABL AI is an AI audit and assurance firm. We evaluate AI systems and the risks, governance, controls and testing around them, and we run a research lab that produces academic research and professional training. The methods taught in this program are the ones we use in our own engagements.

Contact usDo I need a technical background?
No. The program assumes no coding and no advanced mathematics. It teaches the technical understanding you need to ask good questions and evaluate the answers.
How long does the program take?
The program is self-paced. Most learners take 5 weeks at 5 hours per week.
How long do I have access?
You have access to all material for 12 months after enrollment.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes. Complete all five courses, including the required exercise in each, and pass each course quiz to earn the AI Audit & Assurance Training Program Certificate of Completion.
Is the capstone required?
No. The capstone is optional. Learners take it for extra practice, for another round of feedback, or to work through an AI system from their own job.
Can I take the courses individually?
Yes. Each course is also available on its own. The full program gives you all five in the recommended order and saves you $500.
Can my organization enroll a team?
Yes. Contact us through this form for group enrollment.
